Who’s In Charge?
“Now in putting everything in subjection to him (Jesus) , he (God) left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him…” (v.8)
There is nothing outside of Jesus’ control. Everything is “subject” to him. God made it this way. God chose to work this way through His Son, Jesus. The problem is that, “At present we do not yet SEE everything in subjection to him.” (v.8) These last days will test our resolve and trust in the premise that Jesus is in control! We will be tempted to think that Jesus has lost control… that lawlessness and the Devil are still “in power”. Hebrews shows us this is simply not the case. The enemy is subject to Jesus and IS NOT “out of control”.
The anti-christ will come and seek to function as a “pseudo-savior” for humanity as a whole. The Devil consistently seeks to deceive humanity into thinking he has more power than he truly does. Revelation 13 tells us about the way that the a “beast” would show up and wield power over humanity, deceiving humans into worshipping him. (cf. Rev. 13:1-18) The enemy has his own lesser / counterfeit / imitation of the TRUE power of Jesus. He longs to appear limitless… but in fat he is living on borrowed time. He is sinister in his plan… for he loves to create chaos and then seek to show up and give a “cure” for the very chais he creates! It is like a person who invents a disease and its cure, and then releases the disease on humanity so they can show up and bring the “cure”… they masquerade as “heroes” when in the end they are villains. This is anti- Jesus… this is the heart of the anti-Christ. If we are unaware or unfamiliar with the POWER of JESUS… then we will be impressed by the imitation that the anti-Christ brings! The enemy wants the people of God easily enamored with his lesser power… and forgetful of who is actually in control.
Just because Jesus has not yet put every enemy under his feet yeah does not mean that he is “out of control”. This is why it requires faith to walk with Christ. Faith is assurance of what we hope for and conviction about what we cannot see… and right now we do not yet see everything put in its place of subjection yet. The time is coming though!
In these last days, may we cling tight to the one who is IN CONTROL. May our minds be renewed… holding fast to our HOPE and CONVICTION. (cf. Heb. 11:1) We must not lose heart, or grow weary. When the enemy shows up with the false promise of solving the very chais he created… do not take the bait. There is no power or authority in existence greater than Jesus Christ. EVERYTHING is in subjection to Christ, and noting is outside his control. Whatever situation is out of YOUR control today… Jesus has a handle on it! Whatever you think Jesus has let slip… he has not. Trust him. These last days will definitely “call for the endurance and faith of the saints.” (Rev. 13:10) Make us strong Lord. Give us faith. May we trust King Jesus now more than ever. Love you guys. - JDP
